The auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it is also a lot of fun! Certainly not a black-tie affair, but still a fun occasion to clean up and dress up to a degree above what we typically do, the auction is an event to attend even if you don't expect to be a "big bidder." Community members can browse and mingle over generous hors d'oeuvres and libations. The event feels like a party, and we only ask for a donation of $10/person or $15/couple to register. Donated items for bidding traditionally have ranged from the practical to the fanciful, and you can find a bargain on a cord of wood as well as exclusive once-a-year auction-only finds like the Gairs' famed whiskey cakes. There have traditionally been live and silent components to the auction. So that we adults can relax and really enjoy ourselves, we request that children stay home or head to school, where we anticipate that there will be babysitting available. Eighth graders will be working the event as servers, display models, and overall helpers.
