Swan Lake – Bolshoi Ballet
7:00 PM

Tickets: $18 Adults, $15 Members, $6 Students.  At the palace, the royal family and their guests are gathered for Prince Siegfried’s birthday celebrations. In a majestic ceremony, Siegfried is made a knight; young girls try to attract his attention, as he must choose a wife during the ball. Overcome by the sudden awareness of his future responsibilities, he escapes into the night and meets a strange flock of swans by a magical lake.

White swan by day, human by night, the beautiful Odette awaits an oath of true love to break the curse. The great legend of the enigmatic swan/woman is one of the most romantic classical ballets, appropriately set in the era of courtly romance and characterized by elegance, style and harmony.

With Tchaikovsky’s famous, lyrical score, Swan Lake depicts the tragic love between Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried, and will no doubt be performed to perfection by the unparalleled virtuosity of Russia’s great Bolshoi Ballet. This universal and enchanting masterpiece of love, deception and drama is a must.

Auction at the Riverside School Barn
4:30 PM - 8:30 PM

The auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it is also a lot of fun! Certainly not a black-tie affair, but still a fun occasion to clean up and dress up to a degree above what we typically do, the auction is an event to attend even if you don't expect to be a "big bidder." Community members can browse and mingle over generous hors d'oeuvres and libations. The event feels like a party, and we only ask for a donation of $10/person or $15/couple to register. Donated items for bidding traditionally have ranged from the practical to the fanciful, and you can find a bargain on a cord of wood as well as exclusive once-a-year auction-only finds like the Gairs' famed whiskey cakes. There have traditionally been live and silent components to the auction. So that we adults can relax and really enjoy ourselves, we request that children stay home or head to school, where we anticipate that there will be babysitting available. Eighth graders will be working the event as servers, display models, and overall helpers.

US Winter Swimming Championships

The US Winter Swimming Association is a recently formed non-profit organization with the mission to promote the sport of winter swimming in the United States. Winter swimming is extremely popular in countries with colder climates and competitions in Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Estonia and China. Even Great Britain and South Africa events typically draw hundreds of swimmers. Over 1,000 swimmers competed in the 2014 Winter Swimming World Championships which were held in Lapland, Finland this past February. In the US, interest in winter swimming has been growing over the past five years. The USWSA was formed to make these competitions available in the United States.

We are excited to announce that on February 21, 2015, the first sanctioned Winter Swimming Championship in North America will be held in Newport, Vermont on beautiful Lake Memphremagog in accordance with rules of the International Winter Swimming Association and in collaboration with Kingdom Games.   25, 50, and 100 meter races – On Lake Memphremagog in downtown Newport.

Cost: FREE.  NorthWoods Stewardship Center will host a winter tracking presentation appropriate for the whole family. Participants will gain a new perspective on Vermont’s resident winter animals, their habitat and behaviors, and tips and techniques for spotting their tracks and signs in the winter environment.
