WINTERBIKE!





Join us for the 8th annual Winterbike Fatbike Festival!

Mountain Bike Vermont and Kingdom Trails have partnered once again for the 8th annual WinterBike Fatbike Festival on March 2, 2019. The year brings the largest Winterbike yet: more pedaling people, more groomed trails, more festivities, more fun!

 

Registration for the event gives you access to the Kingdom Trails network and all Winterbike activities on Saturday including group rides, fatbike demos, lunch and beverages, music, fire, games, race spectation, and swag!
 

FRIDAY PRE-REG PARTY: We will host a pre-registration checkin & social on Friday March 1st at the Tamarack Pub & Grill. Plan to show up between 6:00 and 8:00pm for early registration and pre-gaming! Yup, skip the Saturday morning lineup and head straight into the event!

DEMO FATBIKES will be available from the vendors in the Expo area for 45 minute rides throughout the day on a first come first served basis. Demo loops will be signed and be an optimal length for a perfect 45 minute "ride it like you stole it" demo experience.

 

Shops attending will offer Demos and/or rentals. You'll be able to contact your favorite shop in advance of the event to procure a steed to use all day. Details and prices will vary per vendor.

 Join us at XIP Training Systems, in the heart of Lyndonville for Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Classes. The word Hatha means willful or forceful and can be translated as "ha" – sun, and "tha" – moon. This in turn references the balance between the masculine aspects (active, hot, sun) with the feminine aspects(receptive, cool, moon) within all of us. Hatha yoga draws inspiration from a wide range of yoga styles and backgrounds. This style of yoga joins asanas (physical postures) with pranayama (breath), creating an internal flow for the practice. These classes work on balancing strength and flexibility in our physical bodies while also drawing our attention to our breath in order to help us still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment. Not sure what to expect from a class? Our Hatha Yoga classes are all levels classes lasting for 75 minutes. Bring a mat or use one of ours. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily move in. A Hatha Yoga class is both a great place to begin as well as to challenge yourself!

NorthWoods Demonstration Forest Ski Tour

 Although winter is a quiet season in the woods, it’s a great time to think about forest management. Join the NorthWoods forestry staff, Orleans County Forester, Vermont Land Trust Stewardship Forester, and Memphramagog Watershed Association for a forestry-focused ski tour in the NorthWoods Demonstration Forest to see how we sustainably and productively manage our own woodlands.

 

Starting on groomed nordic ski trails and then venturing into untracked snow, we will visit past and future harvest areas while discussing the ecology of areas that we manage, and also the sensitive areas that we leave alone. This tour will cover 6-10 kilometers of nordic skiing in variable conditions, best suited to intermediate/advanced skiers (or energetic beginners!). Wider nordic backcountry skis are recommended but not required. Snacks and hot drinks will be provided after the tour.

The Vertical Challenge at Burke Mountain





 The Vertical Challenge is a series of free casual ski and snowboard races held at ski resorts throughout the northeast during each winter season. Skiers and snowboarders are divided by gender and age to compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals in each category. In addition to the races, attendees enjoy a festival element, featuring snowy activities for all ages, plus prizes given away throughout a fun day at the mountain.
The race is free, all you need is to do is purchase a lift ticket and complete a registration form.

Reiki and Restorative Yoga Workshop

 Restorative yoga enables deep relaxation as you hold poses for longer periods of time with the help of props to completely support you. It also helps you to regain calm balance and soothe tired muscles.
Reiki translates as: spiritually guided life force energy. Energy can become stagnant when there has been physical or emotional injury or pain. Reiki helps to remove these areas of stagnation, improving energy flow, providing relaxation, and reducing stress

'Thanksgiving in March' Community Dinner to benefit the Burke Senior Meal Site

All are invited!   Call or email to make reservations (walk ins OK, too!).   The Burke Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 7th Annual Community Dinner at the Burke Community Center (located next to the town office building at 212 School Street in West Burke).  It’s the Burke Chamber’s way of saying thanks to the community and chamber members for their support. The dinner is by donation with all proceeds going to the Burke Senior Meal Site which provides lunch and a social atmosphere for local senior citizens. The Burke Chamber hopes to raise at least $1,000! Suggested donation is $10 per person. 

 

This year’s menu is 'Thanksgiving in March’ (with a potluck twist) featuring turkey, stuffing, potatoes, veggies and more. Dinner guests are also invited to share favorite recipes and bring along a potluck side dish, casserole or dessert.

 

New this year, all dinner guests will be entered to win great raffle prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants and shops. There is no cost to enter the raffle, but you must be present to win. Winners will be chosen during the dinner.

 Join us at XIP Training Systems, in the heart of Lyndonville for Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Classes. The word Hatha means willful or forceful and can be translated as "ha" – sun, and "tha" – moon. This in turn references the balance between the masculine aspects (active, hot, sun) with the feminine aspects(receptive, cool, moon) within all of us. Hatha yoga draws inspiration from a wide range of yoga styles and backgrounds. This style of yoga joins asanas (physical postures) with pranayama (breath), creating an internal flow for the practice. These classes work on balancing strength and flexibility in our physical bodies while also drawing our attention to our breath in order to help us still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment. Not sure what to expect from a class? Our Hatha Yoga classes are all levels classes lasting for 75 minutes. Bring a mat or use one of ours.  Join us at XIP Training Systems, in the heart of Lyndonville for Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Classes. The word Hatha means willful or forceful and can be translated as "ha" – sun, and "tha" – moon. This in turn references the balance between the masculine aspects (active, hot, sun) with the feminine aspects(receptive, cool, moon) within all of us. Hatha yoga draws inspiration from a wide range of yoga styles and backgrounds. This style of yoga joins asanas (physical postures) with pranayama (breath), creating an internal flow for the practice. These classes work on balancing strength and flexibility in our physical bodies while also drawing our attention to our breath in order to help us still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment. Not sure what to expect from a class? Our Hatha Yoga classes are all levels classes lasting for 75 minutes. Bring a mat or use one of ours.  Join us at XIP Training Systems, in the heart of Lyndonville for Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Classes. The word Hatha means willful or forceful and can be translated as "ha" – sun, and "tha" – moon. This in turn references the balance between the masculine aspects (active, hot, sun) with the feminine aspects(receptive, cool, moon) within all of us. Hatha yoga draws inspiration from a wide range of yoga styles and backgrounds. This style of yoga joins asanas (physical postures) with pranayama (breath), creating an internal flow for the practice. These classes work on balancing strength and flexibility in our physical bodies while also drawing our attention to our breath in order to help us still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment. Not sure what to expect from a class? Our Hatha Yoga classes are all levels classes lasting for 75 minutes. Bring a mat or use one of ours. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily move in. A Hatha Yoga class is both a great place to begin as well as to challenge yourself!

Written two centuries ago in 1818 by Mary Shelley, FRANKENSTEIN: The Modern Prometheus, is the first true science fiction novel. Years ahead of its time, the story has since become the inspiration for countless film and stage adaptations.

Frankenstein is a living, breathing, gruesome outcome of scientific discovery. The piece raises an important universal question about the nature of innovation- just because it can be done, should it be done?

Victor Frankenstein is a Swiss scientist with a mission to create an artificial human. Without considering the consequences of such progress, he succeeds with terrifying results. After wandering the world alone, the monster eventually comes for Frankenstein’s family. Horrific events unfold until the doctor tentatively agrees to create a mate for the creature. Ultimately, the doctor refuses in an effort to spare humanity but bears the terrible and personal penalties of his decision.

Two hundred years later, Frankenstein still poses a myriad of critical ethical questions. Aquila Theatre’s production of this timeless classic will be bold and thrilling – while paying homage to the original writing of Mary Shelley.

Mindfulness 6-week Series - Part 2

Each 90 minute session will focus on breathing practices, meditation, and movement to improve your overall wellness. Through mindful practices that deepen the connection between what the body experiences and how the mind translates that experience, participants can begin to:
