Alan Greenleaf & The Dr. Catamount Coffeehouse
7:30 PM

The popular duo of Alan Greenleaf and Jonathan (The Dr.) Caplan will be the featured performers at the Friday, October 17, concert of the Catamount Coffeehouse in the Cabaret Room. Robert Resnik once said that Alan Greenleaf is "the quintessential Vermont singer-songwriter". His original songs are inspired by his life on his farm and the people and countryside around him. His blues-folk-rock n' roll influenced North Country sound covers a range of styles. His words are thoughtful, humorous, poignant and, on occasion, hopeful. He gets you laughing one minute and crying the next. With his new songs, he seems to have discovered an untapped capacity. He is funnier, more forgiving... but never more clear-eyed. His continued commentaries on the human condition remain unvarnished but they are sweeter. His insight into the workings of the rural heart seem to grow with time. Pianist Jonathan "The Doctor" Kaplan adds depth, contrast and nuance to every song. On keyboard, Dr. Kaplan unveils the backdrop to all of Greenleaf's stories, orchestrating the rich, vivid, changing, diverse, musical landscapes on which all of their songs play-out, unfold and take hold. Alan and The Doctor together are a local natural wonder, not to mention two of the founding fathers of the regions deepening local music scene.

7:00 PM

Tickets: Adults - $54, $44, $29, $18 and Gold Circle $64; Seniors - $51, $41, $26, $15 and Gold Circle $61. Students - $15

“The best jazz band in the land” -- San Francisco Examiner

New Orleans legends, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Big Easy icon Allen Toussaint will join forces for the first time ever for an evening of legendary music making. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has branched out, during recent years, adding a number of dynamic new musical directions to their rock-solid repertoire of classic New Orleans jazz. Six-time Grammy nominee Allen Toussaint ranks as a key figure in the development of R & B — and his songs have been recorded by a staggering array of artists including Bonnie Raitt, Otis Redding, Phish, Boz Skaggs, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Aaron Neville, The Doors, Glenn Campbell, Warren Zevon, The Yardbirds, Jerry Garcia, Paul Butterfield, Derek Trucks Band, Ringo Starr, Trombone Shorty, Three Dog Night, and The Hollies. Other collaborations include The Band, Paul McCartney, , Elvis Costello, Bo Diddley, Levon Helm, and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Toussaint’s many awards and recognitions include his 1998 induction into the Rick n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

"When I meet someone like Allen Toussaint – that for me is like meeting, you know, someone the equivalent of the Dalai Lama, because for me, he influenced the way I played the piano. He’s a historical part of rock-and-roll.” —Elton John

“At Carnegie Hall the Preservation Hall Jazz Band showed how easily it could hop from era to era. It could work like a rhythm-and-blues horn section or a tightly arranged little big band if need be, but it could also switch back into the polyphonic glories of vintage New Orleans jazz, in which nearly every instrument seems to improvise around the tune at the same time.” —Jon Pareles The New York Times
