BURKE AREA EVENTS

 The Gear Swap is an opportunity for you to make some extra cash while supporting LI students through the Booster Club. Do you have some new and/or gently used sports equipment, ski, dance, music, and outdoor gear that you no longer use? Bring your items to LI on Friday, April 1st between the hours of 4pm and 7pm, and work with a member of our Booster Club or Athletic Department to consign your goods. On Saturday, April 2nd the doors will open up at 8am to Kick off the LI Booster Clubs 1st Annual Gear Swap! Cash and Credit will be accepted.

This is a great course for mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, backpackers, backcountry skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts who venture out for day and weekend trips. Only current SOLO WFR graduates may use the SOLO WFA to recertify a current WFR certification.

KeruBo’s Afro Jazz Group

 Born in Kenya, now living in Winooski, KeruBo has been performing at festivals around the world, blending African traditional music with influences including Brazilian samba/Bossa nova, jazz, and blues. Her music is about healing, preserving African culture and heritage, and highlighting social issues affecting vulnerable minorities such as women and children. Her influences come from generations of music artists and songwriters but more particularly – Achien’g Abura, Miriam Makeba, Dorothy Masuka, and Nina Simone. She feels that these notable, strong-minded, female singers effectively used their music as a powerful medium for bringing awareness and rebuking social injustices.

Benefit Dance Recital

 The Benefit Dance Recital is organized by Lyndon Institute Dance Teacher and VT State Dance Festival Founder/Coordinator, Rebecca McGregor, in an effort to give back to other local organizations that promote youth engagement activities, healthy lifestyle choices, and support lifetime wellness. This year dancers from Lyndon Institute and local dance studios will bring choreography to showcase on the LI stage for an audience to enjoy.
Admission is by donation to the event which starts at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 29th.
The benefactor of this year's Lyndon Institute Benefit Dance Recital will be the Cobleigh Public Library’s Children and Family Programming.

Up from the Roots: A Celebration of Poetry and Music





 Join us for a Poem Town St. Johnsbury Celebration featuring the Myra Flynn Band and special guest Reuben Jackson.From March 17 to April 17 a selection of words related to this year’s PoemTown St. Johnsbury theme, Up from the Roots, will be posted on a window at 67 Eastern Avenue in St. Johnsbury and on posters available in several downtown locations. Participants are invited to use some of the posted words to build phrases or lines of poetry, which they can then submit toward the creation of a community poem.

 

The final poem, made of community contributions, will be arranged by poet, jazz scholar, teacher, and former VPR host Reuben Jackson, who will then read the composition at a music and poetry event at Catamount ArtPort on Saturday, April 30th featuring the Myra Flynn Band.
