Located in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, the Burke area is home to breathtaking beauty, world class recreation and unique cultural offerings. Speed it up or slow it down. Bring your gear or leave it all at home. The Burke area is your four season vacation destination.
Home to Kingdom Trails and Burke Mountain Resort, the outdoor enthusiast will have all the bases covered when visiting Burke. Country inns, B&B’s, resorts, slopeside condos and vacation rentals are located throughout the area offering amenities unique to our cultural heritage. Options for dining range from cafes, country stores and casual restaurants with lots of local ingredients on the menu. There are many country shops, local art studios, farms and museums nearby as well.
Summer and Fall offer endless opportunities to get outdoors and go hiking, boating, fishing, paddling, swimming, rock climbing, horseback riding, and of course, enjoy world class mountain biking on Kingdom Trails, recently named one of the Top Ten Places to Mountain Bike by USA Today! A must do summer activity is a visit to beautiful, glacial Lake Willoughby or preferably, many visits!
Winter is ski season around here with 2,011 feet of vertical and over 178 acres of fun at Burke Mountain! Burke is also home to Burke Mountain Academy which has groomed many Olympic Skiers. We’re casual and laid back around here, though. The slopes of Burke are known for being uncrowded and unpretentious. Kingdom Trails also maintains groomed trails for Nordic treks and fat biking. For snowmobilers, we’ve got miles and miles of groomed trails to explore past villages, farmland and old logging roads.
In Spring, we’re tapping trees and breaking out the fishing rods. Come March, a sweet scent fills the air and smoke begins to rise from the sugarhouses. Be sure to stop into one and maybe get a sample of liquid gold.
