BURKE AREA EVENTS

Shake & Holla will feature foot-stomping Mississippi “hill country” blues and the funky, syncopated sounds of New Orleans brass. Touring together for the first time, the Grammy-nominated and Blues Music Award-winning North Mississippi All-Stars will be joined by the legendary Rebirth Brass Band in a musical celebration of two great southern musical traditions. Steeped deeply in their own traditions, both artists also are part of the vanguard of blues and soul music.

Wilderness Medical Associates; Wilderness Medicine Institute; University of Vermont; Aerie Backcountry Medicine; Wilderness Medicine Outfitters; Wilderness Medicine Training Center; and Remote Medical International certifications are recognized by SOLO for WFR recertification.

This 8-day course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, mountain guides, river guides, and ski patrollers. SOLO CPR certification included.

 Let’s get cozy! As we hunker down for November in New England, our Jukebox Quartet (Brooke Quiggins, Laura Markowitz, Stefanie Taylor, and John Dunlop) has prepared a show that’s all about tradition, comfort, and hygge. We’ll be joined by special guest Moira Smiley, whose voice and compositions have been featured in TED talks and on BBC radio as well as at venues from Lincoln Center to Walt Disney Concert Hall. The music we’ll be performing is shaped and inspired by traditions that we all hold dear and bring us joy and warmth.

WARREN MILLER'S 72ND FILM: WINTER STARTS NOW

 This season, the snow will feel a little deeper, the jumps a little higher and the views from the top will be just a bit more inspiring. Head to Sugarloaf where we’ll meet the minds behind the manufacturing of Winterstick Snowboards, and meet Phil & Amy Taisey, who craft Amalgam Skis out of their garage. Follow Vermont native Jim Ryan around Sun Valley with some new friends.

 

Athletes include Marcus Caston, Amie Engerbretson, JT Holmes and more as well as rising stars Madison Ostergren and Noah Elliott. Follow along on a disabled ski descent of Denali with Vasu Sojitra and Pete McAfee.

This is a great course for mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, backpackers, backcountry skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts who venture out for day and weekend trips. Only current SOLO WFR graduates may use the SOLO WFA to recertify a current WFR certification.
