Naturally 7 sits at an unusual confluence of musical traditions. The New Yorkers’ roots are in a cappella gospel and its latter-day lineage, from doo-wop and barbershop to Boyz II Men and Jodeci. But they also picked up on human beatboxing, where a vocalist turns himself into a drum kit, and fuse the two forms.

They call the results “vocal play” – a form of unaccompanied music in which their astonishingly versatile voices provide not just the lyrics, melodies and harmonies, but every musical instrument in every song.

Defying convention and boundaries, GRAMMY winners Time for Three stand at the busy intersection of Americana, modern pop, and classical music. To experience Time for Three (TF3) live is to hear the various eras, styles, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew. Bonded by an uncommon blend of instruments fused with voices, Charles Yang (violin, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals), have found a unique mode of expression to share with the world.

Island Pond Christmas Bird Count

Have you been looking for a way to get out and enjoy the winter days honing your bird-watching (and listening) skills? Join in the 124th Audubon Christmas Bird Count! This massive and long-running citizen science event is held every year throughout North America and provides important data on bird populations.

This year’s Island Pond CBC will be held on Thursday, December 28.

The IP CBC allows you to be on the lookout for less-common boreal species, as most observation areas include locations within one of the few boreal regions within Vermont –the Nulhegan Basin– considered an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. Birds recorded in the past include spruce grouse, black-backed woodpecker, boreal chickadee, rusty blackbird, and saw-whet owl, alongside dozens of other species.

To join in the fun, gather your warm-weather gear, grab your binoculars, and contact organizer Bob Stymeist (bobstymeist@gmail.com) to learn more details and arrange meet-up times and your observation location.
