The Athenaeum Players presents It's a Wonderful Life

The beloved holiday classic It's a Wonderful Life comes to the Athenaeum Art Gallery on Friday, December 6, with performances at 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm.

Travel back to Christmas Eve 1946 and experience this classic tale of desperation, hope, redemption and joy in the quintessential small town of Bedford Falls, surrounded by the Victorian splendor of the Athenaeum Gallery.

Presented as a staged reading in a 1940's radio drama format, the Athenaeum Players brings to life dozens of unforgettable characters. This radio play is drawn from Joe Landry's adaptation of the screen classic, based upon Philip van Doren Stern's short story, "The Greatest Gift."

Island Pond Christmas Bird Count

Have you been looking for a way to get out and enjoy the winter days honing your bird-watching (and listening) skills? Join in the 125th Audubon Christmas Bird Count! This massive and long-running citizen science event is held every year throughout North America and provides important data on bird populations.

This year’s Island Pond CBC will be held on Thursday, December 19. Storm date is the 20th.

The IP CBC allows you to be on the lookout for less-common boreal species if you are at count spots near the Nulhegan Basin– considered an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. Birds recorded in the past include spruce grouse, black-backed woodpecker, boreal chickadee, rusty blackbird, and saw-whet owl, alongside dozens of other species.

To join in the fun, gather your warm-weather gear, grab your binoculars, and contact organizer Bob Stymeist (bobstymeist@gmail.com) to learn more details and arrange meet-up times and your observation location.
